Glass beaker French press coffee makers feature a durable borosilicate beaker. Borosilicate glass is an outstanding material: It is ultra-light and strong, has great heat resistant properties, and will not get cloudy in the dishwasher.	Spiral plate The spiral plate keeps the filter mesh in place and makes sure that water goes through but no ground coffee. The flexible spiral provides a universal fit taking into account the manufacturing tolerances of glass jugs.	Mesh The filter mesh is a key component to the Bodum coffee makers. It separates the ground coffee beans from the water after the brewing has stopped.	Cross plate The cross plate holds the mesh in place together with the spiral plate.

The Eileen coffee press is a tribute to designer Eileen Gray and is built to withstand the rigors and crowds of a cafe in Paris--the city that Gray loved most. Bodum instills quality craftsmanship in this press and the result, according to coffee purists, is a brewing machine that produces a superior taste and aroma to any electric coffeemaker. The secret is that the grounds are able to steep in boiling water for about four minutes before they are pressed with the plunger, producing a richer, full-bodied flavor.

The heat-resistant glass carafe on this Eileen model holds a maximum of 32 ounces or 8 cups of brewed coffee or tea, making it a useful size for all-day-long drinkers. The stainless-steel frame encases the carafe and protects it from breakage while still allowing coffee drinkers to see their rich coffee through the slotted design. The santoprene-coated square-shaped handle provides a firm grip on the press while pouring and the stainless-steel lid and plunger are durable and will hold up to years of brewing. This French press is elegant looking, functions very well, and makes good tasting coffee. Would have given it five stars, except for two reasons: (1) The beaker could really use a re-design. The glass is ultra thin and fragile, making its longevity very questionable. I think even the slightest bump would fracture(2) When dumping the grounds out for cleaning, I need to keep a finger or two on the beaker to prevent it from sliding out of the metal sleeve. But overall, I do like it and would still recommend.

This press uses the same, reputable all-stainless plunger and mesh filter mechanism as Bodum's Chambord line.

The mesh filter included with my order showed no signs of damage and produces a tight seal within the glass beaker. The mesh is fine enough to keep nearly all grinds out of the final cup, and sediment has been minimal within the final cup when using an appropriately coarse grind.

This press is absolutely gorgeous in person. I have not noticed any sharp edges, and the chrome finish is consistent and without issue. And water spots, should they appear after air drying, are easy to wipe away.

I have found this press to be more durable than the Chambord line. The extra material serves to hold the beaker more snugly, thus better preventing the beaker from slipping out of the holder when pouring, and also helps to prevent bumps, even light ones, from damaging the glass within.

As for plastics, the spout is part of the glass beaker, so no plastics there, but the lid's base is made of plastic(s). I am not sure what plastics were used in its construction, but while the water does pass through openings in the lid while pouring, minimal contact is made and I have not noticed the taste affected. Still, for those with a particular adversity, the glass beaker's spout allows for pouring without the top fully engaged if one is careful.

Cleaning is akin to other presses, and full disassembly of all major pieces, including the filter, is possible and recommended for cleaning. I have not used the dishwasher to clean this press, and I would never recommend it as this would risk damage to the glass and almost certainly harm the chrome finish after repeated washes.

One additional note, be careful not to scratch the glass during the first several cleanings as the beaker is a very, very tight fit for the holder at first. I would recommend a gentle twisting motion be used for the first several beaker removals and insertions. After the first several cleanings, the beaker is a snug, but not overly tight, fit for the beaker and cleaning becomes easier.

Have been using Bodum for some time and enjoy the French Press coffee. Love the minimal space it takes on the counter. Recently replaced our old unit which I had broke. The Eileen model looks great on the table as well as our counter-top which was important as our space is small so it's on display. It makes a great cup of French Press. To avoid loose coffee grounds in your cup, ensure that you clean between the layers of the plunger regularly. Love that the glass insert is dishwasher safe as well.
