Hario was established in 1921 in Tokyo, Japan as a manufacturer of laboratory glassware. By the late 1940s, after many years of research, the company introduced its heatproof "HARIO glass", which allowed the company to introduce its first coffee product - the Hario coffee syphon. After years of expansion in a number of different categories, in 2005, Hario released its iconic V60 Dripper, which has since become the most widely used dripper for manual pour over coffee. Hario's current catalog now spans kitchenware, laboratory glassware, automotive headlights, aromatherapy, pets products and jewelry, with a particular focus on specialty coffee and tea accessories. In addition to its dedication to product quality, Hario has an unwavering commitment to social responsibility, operating its pollution-free glass factory which utilizes 100% natural ingredients.

I don't like automatic coffee makers for a very simple reason: no matter how fancy or expensive they are, the heating elements and capillary tubes are all made from cheap materials. It seems kind of ironic to go through the hassle of using filtered water just to dump it into a machine where the final pathway takes it past materials that you wanted to avoid in the first place. So, I now use pour over. I've got a Melitta cone which I found at a coffee shop. I wanted to use that cone with some kind of pot or server made of glass so that I could see how much coffee I'm making. The glass pot that came with my coffee press had a handle that got in the way of the cone sitting flat on the pot. I read a number of reviews and decided on the Hario.
I don't usually care too much about the look of things, but this thing is cool looking. My wife likes it. It's recommended capacity is 800 ml but will hold a liter and still pour very smoothly. It looks smaller than it is. The design makes it look compact. It is light weight but feels solid and the glass gets warm but not hot. I drink all the coffee within a half hour and it stays hot in the Hario for that period. The serve is absolutely drip free.
I've had this for a few weeks and will provide updates later.
One minor complaint, the handle can get slippery when you either have slightly oily hands (eating food while brewing you and your S/O's coffee on a busy morning), or you re-use it and only put it through the dishwasher once a week. This leads to your fingers sliding up the handle and you burning yourself on the scalding hot coffee in the server if you're not careful. Maybe a bend in the handle, and lip for your thumb or fingers to stop on, a larger handle, a grip, or some kind of thermal barrier at the inside-top of the handle could prevent this.
With a great lid. Well engineered
With quality materials, the real deal. Use ever morning for a
Pour over coffee.
Putting the lid on such that you can pour with it on is a bit fussy. But this thing Holds about two to four servings, so you’ll likely use the lid for its clever (great design) alternate use to hold the funnel after you finish brewing.
This thing is not tempered glass, so you can’t put it on either an electric or gas burner. But you can reheat in it using a microwave oven.
Otherwise, what can you say? It makes and serves good coffee at a reasonable price.
Excellent way to make multiple cups of coffee with a pour over (if you get the larger size) and easier to clean than some other coffee pots. Probably didn't need to get the 03 800ml option but it is nice to have.
However, the glass is thin which does make it feel pretty fragile. Read a couple reviews with several users experiencing cracking so I've been very delicate with it. Hoping this doesn't happen but so far it's been great. Definitely something to handle with care.
The milliliter indicators are also not very clear, which isn't a big deal, but may have been nice if they included some tick marks.
Overall, a great product. Used it almost every day now and it's been my go-to method of brewing coffee.
