Improved spray nozzle, NO burning odor, NO complaints
I had a 2006 Bunn Speed Brew for about 10 years, but it started leaking cold water. I found that there were cracks around the spray nozzle, so had to get a new coffee maker. I have been a Bunn fan for many years, but was hesitant to buy another due to several negative reviews and comments about an electrical burning smell, the less inferior construction, more plastic, and being made in China now. I looked at the top three or four brands/models, and all had negative reviews that made me second-guess myself. Ultimately, I decided to take a chance on Bunn again because I like my coffee ASAP, and a 3-4 minute brew time beats out all of the fancier options that other machines offer. My order arrived in two days, was packaged well, and all parts were there. Other than the stainless front (where logo is) and the newer carafe design, this machine appears to be exactly the same in size, shape, and quality as my 2006 Speed Brew model. The carafe is curvier, but I am sure my old carafes will still work (I keep extras in case of breakage, making different flavors, or when one is in the dishwasher). I removed all of the tape and plastic from the brewer and components, and followed setup instructions to the letter. NOTE: after pouring in the second carafe of water, I only got a half pot of water back to dump out. When turning on the water tank, make sure the red part of the switch is visible (RED = ON). The whole I/O thing confuses some people. Instructions said it takes 15 minutes for the water tank to heat the very first time. It was more like 20+ for me. I was starting to worry when the tank wasn't gurgling and getting warm right away, like my old Bunn used to. Fears of repackaging and returning it were not realized, thank goodness. Unlike some of the negative reviews mentioned, I DID NOT smell anything like electrical or plastic melting. The manual smelled worse. 😉 There were complaints of overflowing and grounds in the coffee. It is VERY IMPORTANT to use BUNN brand filters with these machines. If you think you're going to save money by using the cheaper filters, you'll be sorry! They are shorter and cannot handle the rapid and wide spray of water the Bunn brewer puts out; you WILL either overflow or end up with grounds in your coffee. I buy Bunn filters at Walmart for under $2 for a box of 100. Soooo worth it! I have also tried reusable filters, but had issues with those as well. Don't bother. A sample pack of approx 50 Bunn filters will come with this unit to get you started. For newbies wondering about the amount of coffee to use: I prefer to use either Maxwell House or Folgers Columbian or a dark roast coffee. I used half-caff before, but it seemed weaker as time went by, and I started wondering whether it was coffee or ground up tree bark. Also, half-caff is a finer grind of coffee, which may overflow the basket if you use a lot. Because the half-caff tasted weaker, I would use twice the amount of coffee, causing overflow. I like my coffee med-strong, and I normally use 4 level scoops (1/8C or 30ml coffee measure). The new brewer seems to make to coffee a tad bit stronger than my old one, so I might have to cut back to 3-1/2 or so. IMPROVEMENT: The spray nozzle on my 2006 model would fall off constantly, and frequently got tossed in the garbage accidentally. I had to keep a replacement on hand at all times. The new brewer has corrected this issue! Yay!!! So far, I have no complaints!

Five stars. It makes great coffee. What else do you need it do. I have been "sipping" coffee for about 56 years. My earliest recollection was my Grandmother "saucering" a small amount for me to have at about the age of three or four. I developed an almost immediate attachment to the brew. I started out and remain a purist, never caring for adulterated with cream or substitute, it's "Black", unadulterated. I took to it just as naturally as I took in my first breaths of life outside the womb. That bit of Biography out and done. I am not someone you would call brewing or coffee aficionado. Just use the best water, your favorite ground coffee, and a good brewing device. That is the recipe for good coffee and the only recipe needed by anyone who enjoys the coffee no matter how it is brewed. The roasting process is a key to the flavor and the water is key to the "smoothness" of the brew eventually imparted. Use as pure a water as you can find. Well drawn water is usually superb, but some municipal tap waters rival it, but unless I plan to dig or drill a well, my best option is tap water. I think the hot water storage tanks on Bunn's (at 200 degrees) may actually help dissipate the chloramine used by water utilities. It would help explain the smoother taste coming from Bunn coffee makers in general. The first time I had ever used a charcoal filter and tasted that first cup after the brewing, I knew couldn't go back to the straight tap water again. The Bunn Velocity does not have any filtration method, which created a little consternation over its selection but it has surprised me by it's ability to keep the chloramine bitterness in check. Otherwise, all things considered, it appears to be a well built coffee maker. It delivered a smooth taste and under three minutes from start (Closing the swing lid over the water fill reservoir to start the process to finish, to the last drop into the carafe.) I realise the grounds themselves act as a filtration element and with that I also noticed a unique pattern created by the drip dispenser in the grounds. I had never seen such a pattern in my other experiences with commercial style Bunn units. There is some engineering that has been formulated over the years, and it is put to good use here. I have had boiling water poured through small strainer, I have brewed it in a percolator, a stove top model and an electric one for years. I have used a pump-drip coffee maker almost exclusively for the last 30 years. I loved the ability to brew my morning coffee in the same style and manner as the restaurants. Not exactly the same, but a close imitation and it was good coffee. My coffee drinking suddenly entered a level of sublime pleasure and enjoyment these past fifteen years. Then one morning I flipped the switch to start the brewing thinking my timer had failed. Nothing, my carafe setting there empty, as if it's soul had been summoned to the great grinder in the sky, and all that remained was an empty promise. This Bunn has ably filled the hole left by my old friend. I see all types of reviews, and many pro and cons. For me, this does the job, it's fast, and it's great tasting coffee. Best of all I can brew a carafe in 3 minutes, that keeps a lot of coffee cups filled and the best coffee there is, is simply that which is shared with friends and family. I took a vote one evening, they were impressed with the Bunn, and the coffee it produced. That's when coffee is really at it's best. I think you will enjoy it just as much as I do. What serious coffee drinker hasn't coveted a Bunn at one point of their lives. I am glad to finally own mine.

BUNN NHBX-B Contemporary 10-Cup Home Coffee Brewer, Black

We purchased a Bunn Home Coffee Brewer about 5 years ago for our home. We are avid coffee drinkers and have lots of friends who are also. We were having trouble with the coffee not making quickly enough and we never could get a consistent brew.

We recently purchased this exact model for our son as a wedding gift. He's a coffee drinker too, and we knew this would be an awesome wedding gift for him and his bride.

What do we LOVE about this coffee brewer??

First of all it will make a full pot of coffee in less than three minutes. Because you have a tank of hot water waiting at all times, you never have to wait for the water to heat up. In other words, if you have a large group of coffee drinkers over, you can make two back to back pots of coffee. While one reviewer talks about the frustration of waiting for the second pot, it's not really accurate. The reason? By the time everyone fills their cup, and the first pot is gone, the water will have reheated.

Next, the water flows out of a "shower head" type nozzle, so water will flow through ALL the grounds, getting all the flavor out. You may find that you won't have to use as much coffee per pot.

The coffee brewer makes the most consistent cup of coffee ever. Find the grind, flavor, strength, etc. that is right for you, and you'll always be able to replicate that cup of coffee.

This brewer also makes a HOT pot of coffee. We usually drink our coffee right away, not letting it sit on the warming plate for long. If we want more, we just make another 4 cups or so. Because the brewer makes coffee so quickly, we can do this easily. This prevents the warmer from "cooking" the coffee, like all warmers do.

The brewer looks great, especially the new contemporary model. It's easy to clean and operate. Be sure you follow the directions when making your first few pots of coffee. The decanter MUST be under the nozzle before you close the top of the brewer. The water will come out so fast, you'll have counter coffee if you don't follow instructions!! It's THAT fast!

Because it is difficult to find the filters at local stores, I suggest that you order your filters online. Seriously, it not difficult to order ahead of time and keep the extra filters in the pantry. Bunn carries them on their website in 1000 filter packs. We split our box with family who have also purchased this brewer.

This is one awesome coffee brewer.

Best coffee maker I have ever purchased. I should have bought a Bunn 30 years ago, I bet I would still have it and it would have still been making coffee, unlike all the other brand name coffee machines I've WASTED my money. This machine is on all the time, fill it up, plug in it, leave it plugged in unless you are going on vacation, seriously. My wife puts her tea pot under and makes tea instantly. I have hot water for hot cocoa and it makes the smoothest coffee! Forget Starbucks, hahaha... this machine is faster and better.

This coffee maker was replacing an older model Bunn. Much improved, and more compact design, better for counter top.
The carafe is not as shown in the picture. Don't know how they got that picture, as it would have been a better design pot.
The one received is the usual Bunn carafe. The stainless steel look is much more nice looking than the regular black design.
