Our Brand Mission
We at Osaka are strong devotees of what is called the “third wave of coffee.” It is essentially the belief that coffee is not just a drink or a commodity, it is a specialty. Much like wine the flavors are nuanced and vary greatly. In order to fully enjoy coffee, we believe that it is not just the source of the beans or the method of roasting. If you brew it incorrectly, the results will not be satisfactory. With our brewers, guides and tips, you too can learn to really enjoy a cup of coffee brewed perfectly.

In the box we have included a guide with detailed instructions and tips, to help you brew the best cup of coffee you ever had.

Serious about Coffee.
5 Stars for Customer Service. To preface, I'm serious about coffee. Pour over Chemex, aero press, expresso... I do it all. Here's the story: The filter that came with my initial order is this system broke. The carafe was fine, albeit thinner glass then I would have liked, but the metal filter broke within the first week of using it. I was very disappointed. This was my first foray into metal filters and I was hoping to be impressed by this system and save time/money on paper filters. I posted a review of my poor experience. Within days the company promptly replaced the filter... The new filter is superb! I am shocked. I can't believe I'm going to type this, but this cup might actually be smoother than my Chemex. The filter has two layers of filtration, a fine mesh and then a larger colander type layer on the outside. Overall, a great pour over system. Pros: - No need for paper filter. Less adulteration of taste and less waste used - EXTREMELY smooth - Filter supports a very good "bloom" Cons: - Carafe glass is pretty thin. The neoprene cuff ensures comfort though. - Harder to discard wet grounds (you have to dump/rinse the filter as opposed to just tossing a paper one)

    Coffee
This thing makes some good coffee. Of course it depends on the bean, your method, and all of that. But coming from a basic pour over drip with the paper filters...the metal filter seems to make a world of difference. And you can taste it. The coffee somehow tastes more rich and bold.

    Design
This thing looks great. The semi-hourglass figure looks great and sets itself apart from the other basic designs of pour over drips. I definitely wouldn't mind to keep this on my kitchen counter. But be aware that the grip is actually made of neoprene. I expected some kind of leather or faux-leather to complete the premium look - but it's neoprene. It absorbs the heat pretty well, and should be definitely alot more wash-friendly than leather. It's got a nice simple black stitching to it. But it does have a kind of sheen to the brown.

I wish there was some kind of small marking on the bottom for volume. Little tick-marks for 1 / 2 / 3 cups just to make life easier. But I can do that myself as some may prefer the minimalist design.

    Quality
I've been using mine about a week and have absolutely no problems with it. The filter is great and does the job perfectly. The glass at the bottom does feel a little cheap (or thin) - something I can hear when I'm placing it on my counter.

All in all I'm very happy with the product and hope it'll last me a long time...

I was searching for a coffee-maker that would take-up less space on my counter than our current monstrosity and this one is wonderful! The flavor of our coffee is so much richer than from the plug-in brewer and the "pot" is small-enough that we tend to drink it before the coffee goes stale. It's easy to empty the filter and rinse off, immediately, so we don't have the mold problems we did with the standard coffee-maker. This brewer does not require a plug-in, it's small-enough to store in a cupboard, it brews faster than our coffee maker, and the coffee coming out of it tastes richer and is not as bitter as the coffee brewed in "standard" coffee-makers.

The premise was good, but I was amazed at how thin the glass was. When I opened the package, I actually stated, "I wonder how long this will last?". Well, it lasted less than a week. It was really OUR fault, in that we moved a cord on the counter top and this toppled over. It didn't fall on the floor, but shattered on our basic (as in, not marble!) counter top. I would say if you get it, treat it super gingerly--just tipping over on a counter top should not shatter glass..

As for the usage, it served its purpose. Making coffee this way is pretty putzy, but it tasted really good. The trick is high-quality coffee, and then dripping through. If you get this, or any similar to it, make sure to read online how to pour the water, allowing it to bloom before putting ALL the water in. You also need to determine, through trial and error, the quantity of grounds you wish to use with the quantity of water you will be using. I found that the amounts online were akin to French Press coffee, which is tasty but quite strong, so we tamed it down a bit. Just use your personal preference. Temperature is important as well. Normally, I use an antiquey percolator from ebay on the stove top, which we love. But this is fun for a change.

Trust the Japanese designers to improve on a Japanese product. I have another pour over pot similar to this one which requires a cloth filter. I've used it for years and been very happy with the quality of the coffee it produces. But this pot with it's permanent metal filter produces an even smoother, yet robust taste. Plus the cloth sleeve on the pot makes it easier to hold. I wish the sleeve was easier to remove for cleaning. I've been told it can be done, but I haven't been able to do it as yet. And although the filter allows a bit of sentiment at the bottom of the brew, I can't quibble over it because of the superior overall end product. I just don't pour the very last drop out but leave a few tablespoons.

My Osaka Itsukushima model drip carafe shattered several days ago. I barely touched the top part of it and it toppled over on the counter. I have bought this from Amazon on Oct 19, 2017... borosilicate glass should not be this brittle.

I love the idea of a glass drip carafe with a stainless steel filter, and this product had a great price, but I am disappointed with the quality. If you end up buying it keep in mind it is very fragile. On the plus side, it brews great coffee.

I contacted Osaka Coffee customer support asking for a replacement, but they have been silent thus far.

Update: after 10 days, Customer Support has still not replied. I am downgrading the review to 1 star.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great looking coffee pot
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 7, 2016
This is a great looking coffee pot, and it makes a pretty good tasting brew too. It does take a while to filter my usual 2 mugs, but my cordless kettle has a nice heat-proof base, so I just bring that with me and keep topping it up.

I've tried with just the included filter, and with additional paper filters, and I think that adding paper filters really helps. The included filter is good enough, but you want to ensure you don't empty the pot, leaving the residue in the bottom rather than your mug. With the paper filters too, this is much less of an issue. Certainly no worse than any other permanent filter I've used though.

    I love this!
Was looking to replace my cafetière when I came across this, I'm no coffee expert but I love the taste of the coffe out of this. It looks good on the work top and takes no longer than a cafetière to make a coffee. I always put boiling/hot water in it first to warm it and and colder days warm the cup as well as I like a really hot coffee and it's perfect. It also looks good on the dinner table when you have guests and always sparks conversation.
