Product Description

The Hamilton Beach BrewStation 40 Cup urn offers one-hand dispensing, so there is no need to put down a buffet or party plate to fill up a cup of coffee. In a busy buffet line, that means cups can be filled faster, saving time and reducing crowding. Disposable cups are never a problem, either - the dispensing button was designed to work with foam as well as classic ceramic cups. For added convenience, the dispensing area has a higher cup clearance than most urns and the drip tray removes for easy cleaning. The last drops of a 40-cup coffee urn have rarely tasted as good until now. In the BrewStation urn, a powerful center heater brews the entire tank quickly (45 seconds per cup versus the normal 60 seconds). Once brewed, the center heater shuts down and a gentle, keep-warm heater maintains a perfect temperature without scorching the coffee. Coffee tastes great longer, from the first cup to the last.

Corrosion

Corrosion
I bought this urn almost 2 years ago. I use it for only hot water . I attached a picture of the bottom of the urn. Hopefully you can see the particles that are floating. Pro: Water is hot Easy to dispense the water Con: The bottom is starting to corrode and particles come in to the water. The outside of the urn is very hot to the touch. The spout is too low to fill a larger cup. I would have liked to recommend it, but with the corrosion, I can't!

    I've had it for years.

🔥🔥 If you're camping with electricity from the pole, a generator, or your car, this is a must have.

I've had it for years and have used it to make everything that needs hot water.

    Just add water, no coffee.

No microwave needed and large groups can use it for instant coffee, oatmeal, grits, hot chocolate, warming up hot dogs in a pot, raman noodles, instant soup, etc.

You can even add hot water to your thermos to save in case the electricity goes out.

Even after you turn it off (or maybe the electric goes off) the water stays warm for a while.

Many years ago, my ex and I used a different one to heat up at the main check in building, then filled our big orange drink cooler with hot water to take back to camp.

Seriously, I think every one needs one of these for hybrid camping.

I bought this percolator to make hot cider for a crowd on Christmas. It worked beautifully.

It takes about 15-20 minutes to get hot, but when it does watch out! This bad boy is HOT! Easy to clean, easy to use. I made several large batches of cider and they all turned out terrific! I noticed that in the last batch I made, which was smaller then the rest, that some of the items in the filter were still dry. It wasn't an issue, just something to note for the future. Works best with lots of liquid :)

Great price for the quality and great to have for entertaining. Travels easily as well.

    The good:
I bought this urn because I didn't need the entire capacity of the classic taller urn designs. This one makes all the coffee I need to serve, and it fits in a cabinet much better! ...because it is shorter. The percolated coffee tastes terrific. The innards of this coffee maker are just like all the burbling percolator urns people have been using for decades, except the basket for grounds now is plastic (and it works just as well as the old-school steel ones).

    The not so good:
The silver push-to-dispense button is pretty stiff.
The cove in the side of the urn, the inset where you push the cup to fill it, is not very tall.

That creates some limitations that the "classic" old design urns don't present you with, because they had a protruding spout, with a handle over it to open the dispensing valve.

If you're using porcelain or ceramic cups, and they're not particularly tall, this Hamilton Beach urn is just fine. Pushing hard mugs against the button with enough force to dispense coffee is easy peasy -- no worries.

If you're using paper or foam cups for your gathering, you and your guests will have to push the cups against the button with more force than you might normally want to apply to the side of a disposable cup. (I haven't collapsed or creased and folded up any cups while trying to get coffee. But I don't know why they built this with such a stiff return spring for that dispensing button.)

If you want to use travel mugs or other cups taller than what you'd serve coffee in at a sit-down meal... you have to think about where to put this urn so the tops of such taller cups fit into that cove where the dispenser button is (Hmm... prop the urn up on an old Manhattan Yellow Pages? Waddle it over to the very edge of the table or counter...?)

So: Five stars for coffee, five stars for simple operation and tried an true internals... but three stars overall for some limitations of the design of the dispenser.

My family has too many coffee drinkers and I was constantly making a pot of coffee. So the answer was, of course, a bigger pot. I was concerned about the height of most of the bigger pots so I was carefully researching measurements. It fits fine under my cabinets. Surprisingly, although this one makes up to 40 cups, it is really no bigger than my 12 cup coffee maker. I made coffee (only 20 cups) right away and I must say it tasted great, it kept it warm without burning it, and now i have the prefect pot. On weekends when more coffee drinkers arrive i can make more. It also looks good on my counter. I'm very happy with this. Should have gotten this a long time ago.

    Update 3/3/2016

This is the second one I have ordered. The first lasted 2 + years. We use it everyday since we are a large family of coffee drinkers. the first one was perfect except we wore it out. I did replace the spout valve 2X and after that it just continued to leak so I figured it was worth a replacement. Previous to this I had paid close to $100. every year or two for name brand 12 cup coffee makers. So this was a real bargain.

However this new replacement has some faults I'm not crazy about. It is the same model number but slightly different in appearance. And different in function. The steam is very slow making it take a long time to fill a cup. Well, not Long but Longer that the previous urn. But more annoying is the fact that is seems to be empty when there are about 8 to 10 cups left. I still love it just curious as to why this one is so different.

Heated up great - Easy to Clean - Used to keep the cider nice and hot for our Thanksgiving meal. It did tend to clog from time to time, but I think that was from the apple cider. No problem, just opened it up and stirred it around a bit . Worked great.
